These guns heat up fast! I used them in a class and having the on/off switch was great because they were plugged in all over and it would have taken too long to plug and unplug them. While the tips do have the protective covering, kids will still manage to get hot glue on them (but only 2 out of 45, so too bad and we are not talking 3rd degree burns). I would highly recommend these for craft groups or classes! They use mini glue sticks and I did purchase more and am glad I did. I didn't think we would need that much, but kids love to glob on glue! We made fake food for a theater camp for kids.
