Gun-rights advocate John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime, rebuts recent antigun "factoids" with real statistics. When it comes to the gun control debate, there are two kinds of data: data that's accurate, and data that left-wing billionaires, politicians, and media want you to believe is accurate. In The War on Guns, economist and gun-rights advocate John Lott turns a skeptical eye to well-funded antigun studies and stories that perpetuate false statistics to frighten Americans into giving up their guns.
Absolutely, positively one of the best books of any kind I've ever read! Lott positively "crushes" the gun controllers with this one. Loaded with facts, figures, charts, graphs, absolutely easy-to-read text, and heavily foot-noted and referenced, Lott covers every topic of gun-control propaganda. You think that "background" checks reduce crime? There's no evidence they do. Believe so-called "research" that says having a gun in your home is dangerous? Well, it's not and Lott precisely explains the huge fault in research that says it does. Do you believe anti-gun propaganda that says that fewer and fewer Americans own guns? Well don't, because polls (Gallup, ABC/Washington Post and NBC/Wall Street Journal) show it just isn't true. Think that the U.S. has more homicides per capita than other countries? It doesn't. Compared to 192 countries tracked by the U.N. our homicide rate is about half the international average. Think the U.K. gun ban reduced its homicide rate? Think again. After the ban homicides went up 50% over the next eight years and only went down after they hired a lot more police officers. Think that Charleston church shooter, Dylann Roof would have been prevented from buying a gun if only more time was available to complete a background check? He wouldn't have been. Roof was never convicted of a crime that would have prohibited him from buying any gun (in fact he was never convicted of any crime prior to his shooting rampage!) and he was never arrested for a crime that could have resulted in a felony conviction. Roof would therefore not have been prevented from buying a gun!Lott goes on and on, like a bulldozer in a forest of toothpicks the gun-controllers' arguments are demolished. This book ought to be required reading for all Americans!
